GoHighLevel is where a large share of small-business messaging already lives, so the question is rarely 'should we text customers' — it is 'why is our texting green when our competitor's is blue'. The answer is that GHL has SMS and email channels, and no iMessage channel, because Apple publishes no API for one.
So you bolt one on. There are three ways to do it, and they differ mostly in how much of the wiring you own.
The three routes
| Route | What it looks like | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| A published GHL integration | Linq Blue publishes one; Sendara lists GoHighLevel among its native integrations. Trigger a blue-bubble send from a workflow without building the bridge. | You want this working this month and are happy to pay list price |
| An agency platform built around GHL | iBluSend targets GHL agencies directly, up to a white-label client portal on your own domain at $399/month. | You are an agency reselling lines, not a business buying one |
| Webhooks and the GHL API | Any provider. An outbound webhook from a GHL workflow calls your endpoint, which calls the provider; inbound replies come back to a webhook you host and get written to the contact. | You already have somewhere to run code and want vendor choice |
The integration is not the hard part. Inbound is
Outbound from a workflow is an HTTP call, and every route above handles it. What separates a working integration from a half-built one is what happens when the customer replies — see iMessage API for CRM integration, which covers identity resolution and timeline sync in detail. That page is the one to read second.
Wiring it yourself, concretely
If you take the third route, the shape is small. GHL workflows can call an outbound webhook; that is your send path. Inbound needs an endpoint of your own plus a write back into GHL.
// Called by a GoHighLevel workflow's outbound webhook action.export async function POST(req: Request) { const { contact_id, phone, message } = await req.json(); const res = await fetch("https://api.example-provider.com/v1/messages", { method: "POST", headers: { Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.IMESSAGE_API_KEY}`, "Content-Type": "application/json", // Idempotency: GHL retries, and a retry must not double-text anyone. "Idempotency-Key": `ghl-${contact_id}-${hash(message)}`, }, body: JSON.stringify({ to: e164(phone), text: message }), }); if (!res.ok) return new Response("send failed", { status: 502 }); const { id } = await res.json(); // Store the provider id against the contact so the reply can find its way home. await linkMessage({ providerId: id, contactId: contact_id }); return Response.json({ ok: true, id });}The reply half writes back into GoHighLevel. The important detail is matching on a normalised number rather than whatever format the CRM happens to be holding — (555) 123-4567, 555-123-4567 and +15551234567 are one person, and naive matching drops the third one on the floor.
import { after } from "next/server"; export async function POST(req: Request) { const raw = await req.text(); if (!verifySignature(req.headers.get("x-signature"), raw)) { return new Response("bad signature", { status: 401 }); } after(async () => { const event = JSON.parse(raw); const phone = e164(event.from); // normalise before you match on it const contact = await ghl.searchContact({ phone }); if (!contact) return await ghl.createContact({ phone, source: "imessage" }); await ghl.addInboundMessage({ contactId: contact.id, body: event.text, direction: "inbound", // Anything the team should see must land on the timeline, not just in your logs. }); }); return Response.json({ ok: true });}What it costs, in GHL terms
The pricing shape is different from GHL's own SMS billing, and that catches people out. iMessage lines are almost always a flat monthly rate per line with no per-message fee — so cost scales with how many numbers you run, not how hard you work them.
- [Texting Blue](/pricing/texting-blue-reviews) — $19/month is the published floor if you just want a line.
- [Blooio](/pricing/blooio-reviews) — $39/month flat, an OpenAPI spec, and webhooks to wire in.
- [Sendara](/pricing/sendara-reviews) — $249 first line, $149 for each additional, $99 setup. Priced at the top of the field, with the CRM integrations as the product.
- [iBluSend](/pricing/iblusend-reviews) — $79/$199/$399 tiers, with the agency portal at the top. You supply the Mac and Apple Account.
- [Linq](/pricing/linq-reviews) — no published price. A sales conversation, a SOC 2 report, and RCS, SMS and voice in the same API.
An agency reselling lines is taking on the risk, not just the margin
Bring-your-own-Mac models put an Apple Account per client under your control, and Apple's terms do not permit automating consumer accounts. When one gets locked, the client's messaging stops and the call comes to you. Price that in — vendor risk in this category sets out what to ask before you commit clients to it.
The rules do not change because it is blue
GHL agencies tend to arrive with a working understanding of A2P registration, opt-outs and quiet hours from the SMS side. All of it still applies. The blue bubble changes how the message is received, not whether you were allowed to send it.
- [Consent before you text](/guides/consent-before-you-text) — the part no provider will fix for you.
- [Quiet hours and frequency](/guides/quiet-hours-and-frequency) — the fastest way to burn a line is to work it too hard.
- [A2P registration](/guides/a2p-registration) — what carries over from your SMS setup and what does not.
- [UTM tagging for text messages](/guides/utm-tagging-for-text-messages) — so the attribution survives the channel change.
If you are still choosing a vendor rather than wiring one in, the best iMessage API for CRM is the shortlist, and what each provider costs is the table.
Common questions
- Can GoHighLevel send iMessages?
- Not on its own. GHL has SMS and email channels; iMessage is not one of them, because Apple publishes no API for anyone to build against. You add it through an iMessage provider — either one with a published GHL integration, or through webhooks and the GHL API.
- Which iMessage API integrates with GoHighLevel?
- Linq publishes a GoHighLevel integration for its Linq Blue product. Sendara lists GoHighLevel among its native CRM integrations. iBluSend is built around GHL agencies specifically, including a white-label client portal. Everyone else connects through webhooks and the GHL API.
- Can an agency resell iMessage lines to its GHL clients?
- Yes — iBluSend's top tier is designed for exactly that, with a white-label portal on your own domain at $399/month. The catch is its model: you supply the Mac and the Apple Account per line, so the operational risk sits with you rather than the vendor.
