Beeper Desktop API review

A real local REST API with a built-in MCP server — that its own docs tell you not to use for business.

Beeper is a unified chat client, and its Desktop API exposes every network it is connected to — iMessage included — through a local REST API with an MCP server built in. It runs entirely on your device and requires Beeper Desktop to be running. For giving an AI agent read and write access to your own conversations it is the shortest path in existence. For business messaging, Beeper's own documentation tells you to look elsewhere, and that advice should be taken literally.

What it is good at

  • A genuine REST API over your chats with an MCP server included — no wrapper to write before an agent can use it.
  • Runs entirely on-device, so message content is not passing through a third party's servers.
  • Covers many networks at once, not just iMessage.
  • Free with the app.

Where it will bite you

  • **Beeper's own documentation recommends it for personal use only and warns that sending too many messages may get the account suspended by the networks.** That is the vendor telling you not to build a business on it; believe them.
  • iMessage is supported only on macOS, so the Mac requirement is unavoidable.
  • Beeper Desktop must be running for the API to respond — an app on a laptop is not a service.
  • Your personal Apple Account and personal number, with no business separation.
  • No delivery guarantees, no SLA, no support path for commercial use.

UTM note

Personal-use tooling has no campaign layer. If you find yourself adding UTM parameters to messages sent through Beeper, you have outgrown it — move to a hosted vendor before the account suspension its docs warn about arrives.

Whatever you send with, build the URL from one helper so tagging is consistent across every job and campaign. Open the UTM builder to generate one now.
